Fish Protection Products for Large Water Intake Systems - Power Plants
Utilizing an Evoqua® Modified Traveling Water Screen with non-metallic baskets, independent lab testing of over 19,000 fish across 10 species reported mortality rates less than 5%.
EPA Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act requires the location, design, construction and capacity of cooling water intake structures reflect the BTA for minimizing adverse environmental impact. As pioneers in the industry over 30 years ago, we developed a capture and release method of handling fish, in conjunction with Dr. Joseph D. Ristroph. A decade later, we developed an improved system with help from Dr. Ian Fletcher known as the Modified Ristroph design. We create environmentally-friendly designs and save fish and other aquatic life, not because we have to, but because it's the right thing to do.
Our traveling water screens prevent the entrainment of aquatic life in large, raw water intake systems. Fish, their larvae and other aquatic life are kept from impingement with our patented impingement-prevention designs. Evoqua's traveling water screens (TWS) and their housing structures are used in large water intake channels for power plants, pulp and paper plants and other manufacturing processes that utilize large water intake systems.
