Water Utilities Making Waves

Across Florida, Xylem’s Flygt Services Solutions teams are on the front lines helping utilities keep water moving safely, reliably, and efficiently. At facilities in Sanford and Jupiter service professionals are the trusted partners utilities call when performance matters most.

Meet the unsung heroes powering Xylem’s preventative maintenance agreements (PMAs), working behind the scenes to keep vital pump systems performing and Florida’s water and wastewater systems running.

The growing pressure on water utilities

Utilities today are balancing more than ever: aging infrastructure, tighter budgets, workforce shortages, and they still need to reliably serve their communities. Preventative maintenance programs provide utilities with a way to stay ahead of issues instead of just reacting to emergencies.

“Preventive maintenance is number one,” says Ben Griffin, branch manager, Xylem’s Flygt Service Center says. “It costs a little up front, but it saves you money in the long run.

For Griffin, the work is personal. “We have a responsibility to our community – the mothers, fathers, and grandparents who expect water and wastewater systems to work every time. Preventative maintenance helps us keep that promise.”

How can preventative maintenance agreements take tasks off a utility’s plate?

At Xylem’s Florida service centers, Griffin’s team handles everything from routine pump inspections to major rebuilds – often under long-term PMA contracts that free utilities from the monotony of day-to-day maintenance.

Each morning begins with a safety and scheduling huddle to plan the day’s work. “It’s like a chess match,” Griffin says. “We might have three jobs happening, each hours apart, so we’re constantly balancing priorities and resources. The goal is simple, keep every customer up and running.”

PMAs make that goal achievable. Under these agreements, Xylem’s experts proactively service assets according to manufacturer standards, monitor performance trends, and recommend repairs before breakdowns occur. The result: fewer unplanned outages, lower lifecycle costs, and peace of mind for utility managers who can focus on strategic goals instead of emergency calls.

A team built on collaboration and purpose

Behind every successful service visit is a skilled, tight-knit team. “Our team comes from different backgrounds, different interests, but we all care about the same thing: helping our customers succeed,” Griffin says. “When something goes wrong, we don’t point fingers. We work the problem, fix it, and move on together.”

That spirit of collaboration extends beyond the shop floor. Xylem’s Flygt Services Solutions teams regularly volunteer in their communities through Watermark, the company’s social impact program. “We’ve helped kids learn about water and our environment,” Griffin says. “It’s incredible to work for a company that truly invests in giving back.”

Keeping utilities focused on improving water security

For Griffin, the message to utilities is clear: a preventative maintenance partnership isn’t just an expense – it’s an investment in reliability, community trust, and operational peace of mind.

“When you commit to maintaining your equipment proactively,” he says, “you’re showing your customers that you care about them – that you’re doing everything possible to keep their water services safe and dependable. That’s what this work is all about.”
