Xylem’s 2024: Driving change toward a water-secure world
Together with our customers and partners, Xylem continued our mission in 2024 to help create a more sustainable, water-secure world. Being named one of America’s most responsible companies was just one highlight in a year filled with progress, from breakthroughs in real-time water-loss control to advancing PFAS treatment technologies.
1. Recognized as one of America’s most responsible companies
We’re proud to have been ranked 40th on Newsweek’s 2025 list of America’s Most Responsible Companies. This recognition highlights our commitment to sustainability, social responsibility, and strong governance. It’s a reflection of the meaningful impact we’ve made together with our partners and customers.
2. Driving water innovation in the industrial sector
In a recent podcast episode, Xylem’s Sivan Zamir discusses how integral water and water technology are for the current AI and data center boom, as well as how Xylem’s corporate innovation and venture capital team supports water innovation efforts for the global supply chain.
3. Scaling sustainability goals for 2030
In 2024, we set ambitious 2030 sustainability commitments. By 2030 we aim to support our customers and reduce global water demand by at least 2 billion cubic meters while improving water stewardship across our supply chains. These goals build on our success in preventing billions of cubic meters of polluted water from impacting communities.
4. Expanding digital capabilities through Idrica partnership
By acquiring a majority stake in Idrica, we’ve strengthened our ability to help water utilities make data-driven decisions. Idrica’s technology platform gives utilities real-time insights to address critical water challenges. Together, we’re simplifying operations, reducing water loss, and addressing aging infrastructure with integrated digital platforms.
5. Advancing WASH access worldwide
Our commitment to providing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) solutions has grown with a new goal to reach an additional 80 million people by 2030. By partnering with NGOs and engaging young changemakers, we’re driving progress for some of the world’s most water-insecure communities.
6. Innovating PFAS treatment solutions
We’re tackling the issue of “forever chemicals” like PFAS with cutting-edge treatment technologies and mobile solutions. As new regulations are introduced, we’re equipping water operators and communities with the tools they need to meet these challenges and safeguard public health. Xylem's Snehal Desai dives deep into the issue on The Water Values Podcast.
7. Revolutionizing water-loss control
Through real-time data analytics and district metered areas (DMAs), we’re transforming how water utilities detect and prevent water loss. These advancements are helping utilities worldwide operate more efficiently and conserve precious water resources. Learn more in the Smart Water Magazine webinar with Xylem and Idrica.
8. Making a global impact through Aquaton
This year, our Aquaton global virtual marathon raised $225,000 for water projects around the world. Thanks to participants’ efforts, we’re supporting clean water initiatives in communities across the globe, improving sanitation, and fostering water and environmental education.
9. Optimizing water infrastructure in drought conditions
In 2024, The Economist highlighted technology that is tackling Europe’s water crisis, where nearly a quarter of water is wasted. Amid Southern Italy’s worst drought in decades, Xylem helped the islands of Ischia and Procida by detecting leaks and reducing water loss, ensuring they could support peak tourism.
10. Digital solutions and water reuse at SIWW 2024
Xylem CEO Matthew Pine discussed at Singapore International Water Week the important role of digital solutions like Xylem Vue in helping customers optimize decision-making, boost efficiency, and enhance resilience. He also highlighted how water reuse, for utilities and industries, is a critical strategy for advancing global water security and sustainability.
