Oil & Gas

HYPACK IN THE OIL & GAS INDUSTRY

The oil and gas industry, one of the biggest industrial segments in the world, relies heavily on innovative technology for its continued success. This industry includes a variety of sectors such as exploration, extraction, refining, transportation, and the environment. HYPACK® is the most commonly used hydrographic and marine geophysical survey software, and can be used extensively in the various phases involved during the commissioning and development of oil and gas projects.

EXPLORATION

Offshore oil and gas exploration involves extensive and complex geophysical surveys. HYPACK® can be used for vessel and sensor positioning while simltaneously acquiring datasets from sensors such as magnetometers. Prior to drilling, well site surveys are conducted to identify potential geohazards and ground conditions which may affect drilling program safety. HYPACK® can be used to acquire and process all necessary geophysical and hydrographic datasets required for well site surveys.

CONSTRUCTION & EXTRACTION

During oil and gas field development, HYPACK® can handle all positioning requirements required for rig moves, multiple vessel positioning, and the ultra-short baseline (USBL) or long baseline (LBL) acoustic positioning of underwater vehicles such as ROVs.

REFINING

The refining phase involves the construction of onshore or floating plants to process petroleum products for the market. The HYPACK® Payload can be used to accurately map construction activities of the refining plant to produce a daily as-built record for design and construction engineers and the client. This is extremely valuable when assessing the progress of a construction project.

TRANSPORTATION

This segment involves the routing and construction of pipelines from well sites to the shore or floating plant, and the development of harbors or jetties to support tankers along with supply and service vessels. In this area, HYPACK® is used to map the seabed for safe pipeline routing and surveying of as-built pipelines. Our software is extensively used to perform hydrographic and geophysical surveys for the engineering design and construction of suitable harbors, and to accurately chart seabeds for the safe navigation and passage of tankers, and supply and service vessels.

ENVIRONMENTAL

HYPACK® can acquire a variety of marine and coastal data which are used for environmental impact assessments or critical habitat monitoring. Examples include sea grass or coral reef mapping with multibeam and side scan sonars, or using the HYPACK® Payload for shoreline change assessments or oil spill monitoring.
