Sensus Product Security

Current Threats and Risks 

Sensus provides our customers information on a regular basis on threats and risk to the AMI industry and to our solution. This information is provided to our customers to keep them informed, and also provides a communication mechanism for Sensus to be aware of security issues our customers face.

Security Hardening Guidelines 

With each release of our solution, Sensus provides documentation that details specific steps to secure each component. These guidelines are based on industry standards and security best practices that Sensus has customized for our solutions.

Sensus is committed to security in all our products and services.

Patch Management

Sensus has established a Software Patch Management process that begins at the earliest stages of engineering and development. It continues through the Quality Assurance stage and extends through the deployment into our customer and Sensus hosted environments. Sensus provides information and updates in the event a vulnerability is discovered in our software and/or firmware.

Note: Sensus provides updates for the supported version of our products. For those versions of our products that have reached their end of life, Sensus recommends upgrading to the latest version of our software/firmware.

3rd Party Software Updates

Most recent updates are posted as follows:

  • Windows - Updates are posted to the web site within 30 calendar days after release from Microsoft.
  • Red Hat - Updates are posted to the web site within 30 calendar days after release from Red Hat.
  • Debian - Updates are posted to the web site within 30 calendar days after release from Debian.

Exceptions
Sensus provides a list of patches that are not approved, or patches that are not recommended. For those patches or updates that are published by the vendor but not utilized by a Sensus system, no additional action is required.

Sensus Patch Exceptions

Sensus provides Certified 3rd Party Software updates for the products listed below. These software patches have been tested by Sensus with system tests in our Development environment and Quality Assurance testing in our QA environment.

Anti-Virus Software

Sensus qualifies our software running on general purpose operating systems (Red Hat Linux & Windows Server) with the following Anti-Virus vendors. Listed below are the links to the Anti-Virus vendors that Sensus currently supports. Sensus recommends keeping all virus definition files and scan engines up to date. For specific instructions on how to update anti-virus software or definition files please refer to each vendor’s documentation.

Sensus tests our products with the two major Anti-Virus vendors (McAfee and SentinelOne) in the market today. This does not prevent a customer from using another Anti-Virus software, however it would be at the customer’s discretion. Due to the vast number of Anti-Virus software products on the market today, Sensus has limited testing to the major market leaders. Generally, Sensus customers have not experienced any issues with other Anti-Virus software deployed on their systems, however Sensus recommends testing any 3rd party software before installing on a production system.
