The four millionth Flygt wastewater pump will support the efficient operation of the central pumping station at Azaibah, Muscat, in Oman. This station pumps wastewater across eight kilometers to the Al Ansab treatment plant.

To mark the milestone achievement of the four millionth pump, Xylem hosted an event at the Emmaboda facility in Sweden. Attending the event were Mr. Saud Salim Ambusaidy, Senior Maintenance Manager, Haya Water – Oman, and Mr. Mustafa Bawab, General Manager with distributor Gulf Development and Construction (INMA) LLC.

“Producing four million wastewater pumps at this facility is a testament to the illustrious legacy of Xylem’s Flygt brand and the significant impact this brand has had, and continues to have, on solving water issues worldwide,” said Mr. Ambusaidy.

“This central pumping station is a crucial part of the sewage system in Oman – we need reliable, robust pumps to ensure that we provide a dependable service,” Mr. Ambusaidy continued. “Since 2006, Xylem has supported us to do this, and we are confident that the company will continue to facilitate an efficient water service into the future.”

A 100-year legacy

Xylem’s Flygt brand has a 100-year legacy of innovation in pumping, from developing the first submerged pumps to designing the non-clogging N-impeller, to producing wear resistant hydraulics. The very first Flygt pump was manufactured at Xylem’s factory in Emmaboda, Sweden. Xylem’s Flygt pumps are also produced at manufacturing sites around the world in China, India, the United States and Argentina.

The company applies its expertise and technologies to solve complex global water challenges including removing flood waters from New York and New Jersey following Hurricane Sandy, providing energy efficient wastewater pumping at Heathrow Airport and preventing flooding of downtown Kuala Lumpur.

The four millionth 500 kilowatt (kw) pump stands at 2.85 meters in height, 5,300 kilograms weight, with a pumping capacity of 500 liters per second at 66.9 meter head. It features Flygt’s state-of-the-art monitoring system for operational safety, and accessible data review. When the existing Flygt pumps in the central pumping station require routine maintenance, the four millionth pump will ensure that this critical pumping station can continue to operate efficiently.

“As the original submersible wastewater pump, the Flygt pump transformed the wastewater industry and we have continued to innovate since that time,” said Tomas Brannemo, Xylem Senior Vice President and President of Transport. “We are very proud of the brand’s rich heritage and this four millionth Flygt wastewater pump will play a key role in supporting a sustainable environment in Oman.”
