Join Aquaton: A virtual marathon to support vital water projects around the world

This November, you can turn your everyday exercise into funding for community water projects. When you register for the Aquaton virtual global marathon, Xylem Watermark will donate $1 to a water project for every kilometer you run, bike or walk.

Everyone should be able to access clean water, but this remains a challenge for many around the world. This is why Xylem Watermark, Xylem's corporate social responsibility program, started the Aquaton marathon in 2021 in partnership with NGOs. The Aquaton virtual marathon challenges participants to move – by running, biking, or walking – to support water projects in 17 cities.

Supporting projects for water access, sanitation and education

Aquaton started as a regional effort in Latin America, raising $70,000 in its first year to support seven projects. The program has now grown into a global initiative with a goal of raising $150,000 for 15 projects in 2024.

“We’re thrilled to see Aquaton’s growth into a global effort since its start in 2021,” said Xylem’s Vice President of Sustainability and Social Impact Austin Alexander. “Each year, the projects the initiative supports brings us closer to a future where everyone has access to safe, clean water.”

Aquaton has made an incredible impact around the world, supporting projects for water access, sanitation, and education. You can help us meet our ambitious goal this year by joining the movement and contributing your kilometers.

Here are three examples of how Aquaton is making a difference in people’s lives:

Peru: Improving WASH access

In Lima, a lack of access to clean water and basic services means that many people rely on communal kitchens. In partnership with TECHO, Xylem Watermark is providing eight water storage units for communal kitchens that feed hundreds of people. Over 560 individuals benefit from these handwashing stations and water tanks, promoting safer and healthier conditions.

USA: Safe water for rural communities

In Newark, Ohio, a family suffering from cancer and heart problems could not afford a new well, making access to clean water a daily challenge. With Aquaton funding, Xylem Watermark, the Waterboys Foundation and volunteers will drill a new well for the family, provide pumping equipment, and help with house painting and gardening.

UK: Water education and mental health support

Partnering with Canal & River Trust, Xylem Watermark supports the Let’s Fish! UK program, which provides water-based educational and recreational activities to support young people struggling with mental health. This program helps more than 5,000 people, promoting well-being and deepening their connections to water.
