Xylem has won a contract to support the development of a significant agricultural irrigation system in Vietnam. Flygt pumps will be part of the first submersible pumping solution to be installed in Bắc Ninh province, helping to provide a reliable water supply for 5,600 hectares of cultivated land.
Bắc Ninh province is located in the northern part of Vietnam, east of Hanoi in the Red River Delta. The project forms part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s “Strengthening Water Management and Irrigation Systems Rehabilitation Project” to improve the province’s irrigation capacity.
As part of the $1.7 million contract with Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Xylem will help to provide a reliable water supply at the new Phu My pumping station. This involves designing and supplying advanced water-pumping technologies as a key component of the irrigation project.
“Xylem’s extensive water expertise and advanced technologies for addressing water challenges such as this give us confidence that this initiative will have a very positive impact on the region,” says Dang Cong Huong, Director of Bắc Ninh Project Management Unit (PMU), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam.
The Phu My pumping station will irrigate cultivated land in the Thuan Thanh district. It will also draw water from the Duong River during the rainy season to improve agricultural land. Xylem’s Flygt solution at the pumping station will have a capacity of 39,000 cubic meters per hour and will serve 25,000 people in the region.
“We are proud to install the first submersible pumping solution in Bắc Ninh province,” says Robin Wong, General Manager, Xylem Singapore and Regional Marketing Director, Greater Asia for Xylem. “Our Flygt pumping technology is renowned for consistently delivering optimum performance, and our solution will help ensure a reliable irrigation system for this area, which is crucial for local agriculture enterprises.”
The pumping station is due to be operational by the end of 2015.
