Xylem Named to Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies List

Xylem was once again named to Barron’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies list for 2021, moving up to #17 on the list from #61 the previous year. To determine the rankings, Barron’s partnered with Calvert Research and Management, a global leader in Responsible Investing, which analyzed the 1,000 largest U.S. publicly held companies, measured by market capitalization. It rated each company on five key stakeholder categories: shareholders, employees, customers, community and planet.

"We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to sustainability," said Claudia Toussaint, Xylem’s Chief Sustainability Officer and General Counsel. "The past year has highlighted the critical importance of building sustainable communities to meet the extraordinary challenges of our times, and building sustainable companies to serve them. Since the pandemic started, Xylem has put in place extensive measures to protect the health and safety of our employees, work with our customers to minimize potential disruptions at a time when clean water has never been more important in fighting disease, and positively impact communities, including providing humanitarian clean water access and support."

Toussaint continued: "Water is fundamental to sustainability, and as a leading global water technology provider and purpose-driven company, we are working every day to help create a more water-secure, sustainable and equitable world."

In 2019, Xylem set an ambitious slate of 2025 sustainability goals and expanded its sustainability strategy. As a company focused on creating economic and social value, this sustainability framework advances sustainability across three key fronts:

  • To help our customers, including utilities and other water users, advance sustainability, we provide advanced technologies and tools that optimize water and resource management. Our solutions create critical water, energy and cost efficiencies, and strengthen operational and financial resilience, to help our customers address the world’s toughest water challenges, including water scarcity, water affordability and resilience to climate change.

  • To advance sustainability across our company, we are focused on reducing our environmental footprint across our operations and locations, executing with financial discipline, and advancing a sustainable supply chain. We foster a culture that permits all employees to thrive, cultivating a diverse and inclusive workplace that brings together people from different perspectives, talents and experiences, fueling innovation and strengthening our foundation.

  • To help communities become more sustainable, we are providing humanitarian clean water resources, disaster response and WASH education to communities in urgent need, raising public awareness of water issues, and igniting the next generation of water innovators and stewards.
