Water for Spain
With Azul Marino
Marine turtle conservation in Castellón
Along the Mediterranean coast of Valencia, loggerhead sea turtles have been nesting since 2006 — a hopeful sign for a vulnerable species whose survival depends on community care and environmental protection. However, threats from pollution, habitat loss, and low hatchling survival rates continue to endanger their recovery.
Xylem Watermark is partnering with Fundación Azul Marino, in collaboration with Fundación Oceanogràfic, to support the conservation of marine turtles through hands-on community engagement, education, and habitat protection at the Centro para la Conservación de Especies Marinas (CCEM) in Oropesa del Mar.
Xylem solution
- Support the care and maintenance of 25 newborn marine turtles until their release in 2026, increasing their survival chances
- Organize four community beach clean-ups along nesting sites
- Deliver educational talks and guided visits to raise public awareness about marine conservation
