Water for United States, Lynchburg
With Engineers Without Borders
In Lynchburg, South Carolina, the local water system serves around 247 residential and commercial customers. The system relies on groundwater with high iron content, which can cause discoloration when the system is not properly operated. Much of the water distribution infrastructure, including the treatment system, dates back to 1973. Aging fire hydrants have reduced the town’s ability to manage water quality and respond effectively in emergencies.
Xylem Watermark is partnering with Engineers Without Borders USA (EWB-USA), an organization that works with communities to build sustainable, climate-conscious infrastructure. Together, they are addressing critical gaps in the distribution system to improve water reliability and safety for residents.
Xylem solution
- Repair and restore ten non-operational fire hydrants.
- Ensure proper functioning of the water distribution system.
- Support the town in maintaining safe and reliable water access for all residents.
Beneficiaries: Approximately 300 residents
