Xylem’s smart technology enhances pump system at a major UK shopping centre
Shopping Center in the UK
Challenge
Smart technology advances have created great opportunities for organisations to become more aware of their impacts – from energy usage to productivity and efficiency. This has also placed new demands on manufacturers’ ability to deliver greater transparency when it comes to economy, reliability and control. Xylem was able to demonstrate the smart technological advances we have made when one of the UK’s most iconic shopping centres required an upgrade to a crucial booster system. Their 1 million sq ft facility in Birmingham required a new booster system to supply water to its back-of-house services. The system would replace a legacy solution that was unable to meet the demand for more control and visibility from the shopping centre’s facilities team. They turned to Xylem and our distributor PolyPump, where the combination of hydrovar X and Avensor would offer exactly what they needed.
Solution
Working with Xylem UK, PolyPump proposed to replace the historic booster set with a fully automatic GHV series booster set. The series is typically used for water supply and pressure increase in commercial and industrial facilities, municipalities and largescale settings such as apartment buildings and hotels. PolyPump was able to select the requirement accurately using a data archive of the original set. The GHV30/15SVX07F is equipped with three e-SV vertical multistage pumps mounted with hydrovar X, with pressure transmitters and a control panel, all pre-built on a frame for easy installation. hydrovar X is Xylem’s integrated IE5 permanent magnet assisted synchronous reluctance motor and variable speed drive solution, designed to maximise efficiency and extend the lifecycle of all three pumps. The booster set was integrated with Avensor, Xylem’s digital platform that provides the customer with a complete overview of the pump system and its connected assets, anytime, anywhere. To support their monitoring, Avensor collects historical data to analyze trends and generate alerts. This helps to prevent failure and equipment downtime, and provides insights for smarter decision-making. The system and data are inherently protected through Xylem's partnership and secure development processes aligned with IEC-62443 standards. Add to this remote and on-site support from Xylem and our partners, and the customer benefits from complete peace of mind.
Results
PolyPump’s installation team was given a tight pre-Christmas deadline and a requirement to complete the installation overnight (10pm to 6am) while the shopping centre was closed. The booster was fully commissioned by Kurt Minter and Rob Oliver of Xylem UK. Also in attendance was Jake Watkins from PolyPump and PolyPump’s Xylem account manager Dan Jones. Steve Watkins, Managing Director from PolyPump said: The set was quickly up and running with the benefits of the Avensor system and hydrovar X clear to the end client.
“We specified Xylem for this important project knowing that the combination of the tried and tested GHV booster set with both hydrovar X and Avensor would provide the best available solution for the customer. Together we have ensured the system will deliver significant savings as well as market-leading reliability, which is how we have built our reputation.”
