Smart Water transition: how Global Omnium transformed its operations

Smart Water transition: how Global Omnium transformed its operations

Global Omnium, one of Spain's largest water utilities, faced major challenges with its conventional meter reading operations - high costs, difficult access, rampant tampering and fraud, and customer complaints. To overcome these issues, the utility embarked on an ambitious digital transformation journey to deploy one of Europe's largest smart meter networks using advanced water utility management software.

After carefully evaluating technology vendors, Global Omnium implemented a phased rollout strategy to install over 550,000 smart meters with long battery life, open data protocols, end-to-end encryption, and tamper resistance across multiple vendors. A data-centric architecture integrated meter data into a single homogenous dataset, enabling valuable analytics like usage forecasting, leak detection, and improved customer services through vendor-agnostic water utility management software. This pioneering smart meter deployment has comprehensively transformed Global Omnium's operations.

Hot Springs combats water loss with advanced digital solutions

Hot Springs combats water loss with advanced digital solutions

The city of Hot Springs aimed to boost operational efficiency across its extensive water network spanning 923 miles of water mains, 14 district metered areas (DMAs), 43,000 AMI meters, 11 storage tanks, and two treatment facilities. A major challenge was increasing visibility to identify and reduce non-revenue water losses.

Hot Springs implemented an integrated solution combining Xylem's water utility management software -Xylem Vue powered by GoAigua - along with Sensus Analytics, Revenue Locator, and the Sensus FlexNet AMI system. This comprehensive approach securely monitors water data across all 14 DMAs, enabling advanced pressure regulation and targeted leak detection. Initial results have already shown a reduction in non-revenue water losses. By increasing network visibility and proactively pinpointing leaks, Hot Springs has successfully improved the performance and efficiency of its water distribution operations.

Yorkshire Water embraces smart technologies to reduce leaks and improve operational efficiency

Yorkshire Water embraces smart technologies to reduce leaks and improve operational efficiency

Yorkshire Water aimed to transform Sheffield into the UK's first smart water city by embracing innovation to better serve customers and the environment. A key challenge was managing massive amounts of data from 6,000 newly installed sensors and smart meters to derive operational intelligence and improve leak detection across their network.

Yorkshire Water partnered with Xylem and Idrica to implement their integrated water utility management software platform, Xylem Vue powered by GoAigua. This vendor-agnostic solution integrated all of Yorkshire's disparate data sources into a centralized system with modules for leak detection, localization, meter data analytics and customizable dashboards. The platform provided a real-time operational view across their pressure management areas. As a result, Yorkshire has achieved a 57% reduction in visible leaks, 32% less leakage in priority areas, and 30% fewer annual pipeline repairs - helping to control costs, boost performance and minimize environmental impact through data-driven decision intelligence.
