COP27: The role of water in climate resiliency

Xylem CEO Patrick Decker shares why water is a critical part of the climate conversation, and the role of technology in addressing climate change.
 
The 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – COP27 – convenes global leaders to deliver action on an array of issues critical to tackling the climate emergency. Issues include urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, and delivering on the commitments to finance climate action in developing countries.
 
Xylem leaders, including Austin Alexander, Hayati Yarkadas, Shyam Boriah and Patrick Decker are lending their voice to conversations on water resilience, net zero and the role of technology in delivering on climate goals.
 
In this video, Xylem’s President and CEO Patrick Decker covers why water is a critical part of the climate conversation, and the role of technology in addressing climate change. He says, “SDG6 [Sustainable Development Goal 6] is so fundamental to all of the other sustainability goals that have been established. But the opportunity for the role of water is two-fold. One is to modernize our infrastructure to combat water scarcity, and to do it in an affordable way. The second is to reduce the carbon emissions from water utilities and other users of water around the world.”
