Xylem’s Fair Chance Program: Investing in Community and Talent
The criminal justice system has a wide-reaching impact on our families and communities. 1 in 2 Americans has an immediate family member who has experienced incarceration, and 1 in 3 working-age adults has an arrest or conviction record in their past.
It is important to Xylem that we are engaging and not overlooking this talent pool. Fair Chance employment is an investment in the safety and wellbeing of our communities. A job is the most significant predictor of successful reentry from the justice system and can have impacts for generations to come.
Fair Chance employment is a good business decision. Despite many misperceptions, candidates with past convictions have been shown to stay longer and advance faster in their companies.
At Xylem, we have taken multiple steps to expand Fair Chances, including building talent partnerships with community-based organizations, reviewing our HR policies to ensure they align with best practices, and joining national efforts such as the Second Chance Business Coalition to help drive Fair Chance practices in the employer community.
Xylem sees Fair Chance employment as a competitive advantage, engaging great employees that too often go overlooked in the job market. We believe it is a win-win for our companies and our communities and are proud to lead in this work.
“At Xylem, we are committed to impacting our communities and accomplishing our Sustainability Development Goals. By embracing Fair Chance employment, we are making progress towards these goals – while ensuring we are hiring the most qualified candidates for our jobs.”
