A new series of virtual town halls, called Catalyst, is bringing together global water leaders to discuss solutions to the California drought, America’s water supply, and the world’s water challenges. Join the conversation on August 25, when the town hall will focus on the global implications of the lessons learned from California.
In the midst of a four-year drought, California is experiencing the hottest, driest period in state history. With 39 million residents, and the seventh largest gross GDP worldwide, California must now make dramatic changes in order to ensure an adequate water supply for all.
“In these unprecedented, disruptive times, this is the moment to assemble the most innovative, diverse voices, and act with the tenacity necessary to respond to California and the world’s most persistent water challenges,” said J. Carl Ganter, managing director of Circle of Blue and member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Water.
Catalyst, developed by Circle of Blue, is a continuing series of free events designed to give people a deeper understanding of water challenges and the California drought. For more than a decade, Circle of Blue journalists have reported on the global competition between water, food, and energy in a changing climate.
“We face converging global choke points at the intersection of water, food and energy that are causing billions of dollars of disruptions, testing human and ecological resilience, and requiring us to be much more nimble and responsive,” Ganter said. “It is only with systemic, creative, and collective thinking that we will find sustainable solutions.”

On August 25, you can join Circle of Blue on a special interactive, virtual town hall live from World Water Week in Stockholm and the One Water Leadership Summit in San Francisco. You’ll join experts in discussing the best ways to manage water in a fast-changing world. Participants are encouraged to ask questions, bring ideas, and be part of the conversation.
Discussion leaders at the event will include, among others: Peter Gleick, Director of The Pacific Institute; Upmanu Lall, Director of the Columbia Water Center; and Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Director of the World Bank Water Global Practice.
