For Sutton Moore, Talent is a Garden of Diversity

It’s no surprise that backyard gardening is one of Sutton Moore’s personal escapes. As a talent acquisition leader in Xylem based in Raleigh, North Carolina, her passion for planting things and watching them flourish serves as her daily motivation. “Nothing is more satisfying than discovering and helping bring that special person to Xylem, and watching them reach their full potential,” Sutton notes with her trademark optimism.

Sutton is most proud of her team’s focus on diversifying Xylem’s talent pool. “We constantly challenge ourselves – and our hiring managers – to look outside of the box, turn over every stone and explore all the options,” Sutton notes. “Advancing diversity across our company not only leads to more effective problem solving and innovation, it strengthens our culture and our business.”

One example is how Xylem is working to advance women across the company and the water sector, including fostering the Xylem Women's Network, which focuses on the professional development of women across the organization. The company has also signed the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles (UN WEPs) and regularly convenes conversations on how the sector can come together to advance women in water.

The company’s commitment to build a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion is a key reason Sutton has chosen to build her own career at Xylem. As a mother of two young kids, she appreciates Xylem’s support for women and working parents, citing its Women’s and Working Parent Network groups, which connect women and men across the organization, build a sense of community and belonging for employees, and create a collective voice to advise Xylem on policy and business practices.

As Sutton notes, “From my experience, Xylem has taken a very strong focus in supporting our well-being and mental health – especially over the past year when we’ve all been facing new and challenging working situations,” she says. “My team truly looks out for each other.”

With summer around the corner, Sutton greatly looks forward to heading up into the nearby mountains outside of Raleigh with her family to hike and explore. For now, she’s rolling up her sleeves and digging in to uncover the next bright talent.
