The U.S. Department of Energy and Department of Commerce recently teamed up for a joint trade mission to China that focused on smart cities and green infrastructure. Xylem was included in the 25 companies invited to showcase technology and expertise that can drive economic growth while reducing carbon emissions.
The mission, which took place between April 12–17, 2015, visited Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou. There companies presented their sustainable products and services for areas such as clean air and water, smart buildings, green data centers, waste treatment and green transportation.
State media in China recently reported that the government intends to commit 2 trillion yuan, or $330 billion, on an action plan to combat pollution of its water resources.
“Xylem has a long history of operating in China and, with a strong local presence, we understand the complexity and urgency of its water challenges,” said Patrick Decker, President and CEO of Xylem. “We are very encouraged by the Chinese government’s recent commitment to improve water quality through significant investments in sustainable solutions such as wastewater treatment, recycling and membrane treatment technology.”
Chris McIntire, Xylem Senior Vice President and President, Analytics and Treatment, and Shuping Lu, President of Xylem China, represented Xylem on the mission.

The companies selected today are key reminders that through the world-class innovation of U.S. companies, we can decrease emissions while creating economic opportunities.”
