Xylem Global Student Innovation Challenge 2024
Over 4,400 students from 150 countries across the globe participated in this year’s Xylem Global Student Innovation Challenge! Students acquired new sets of knowledge and technical learning from the 8-week virtual hackathon, which includes mentorship from experts within Xylem and its partners and a series of expert-led masterclasses.
The students were tasked to design solutions to the following problem statements:
- Reducing Ocean plastic waste and minimizing impact on the environment
- Lowering indirect GHG emissions through Remote Monitoring, Servitization Processes, and Efficient Designs
- Raising awareness of sustainability in the water industry and minimizing water waste
All projects were judged according to:
- Impact – will their solution have a far reach and market potential? How does it affect your community? Or what social impact does it have?
- Challenge Fit and Feasibility – how relevant is the proposed solution to the stated challenge? How well does it solve the problem in real-world setting?
- Innovation – Is the project new and disruptive? Does the project deliver a fresh and compelling user experience?
Students of all experience levels are encouraged to participate!
Students from all expertise levels competed for 8 cash prizes from the $20,000 prize pool, including $5,000 grand prizes for the top secondary (high school) and tertiary (university) projects, and two community choice awards (high school and university).
