Setting the standard for China's water utilities

Beijing Drainage Group is using digital tools to achieve decarbonization targets aligned with the city’s carbon-neutrality goals.  

BDG was the first utility in China to commit to ambitious carbon neutrality goals, setting a roadmap to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2025, reduce carbon intensity and carbon emissions by 40% by 2035, and achieve total carbon neutrality by 2050.

Energy consumption has already been cut by 15% using digital technology.

The utility is using multiple levers to drive progress. It is building China’s first carbon-neutral standard water reclamation plant. When completed, it will be the world’s largest treatment plant of its type.

BDG’s Wujiacun facility is a benchmark for low-carbon treatment plants.
