Xylem factory using sustainable thermal energy

At its plant in southern Sweden, Xylem has installed a thermal energy storage system that has reduced its energy usage by more than 67 percent. The Emmaboda facility manufactures 150,000 Flygt pumps and mixers each year.

The factory’s foundry, which runs 4,000 hours per year, generates a lot of excess heat. Thanks to the borehole thermal energy storage system, this and other excess heat in the factory is captured and reused for other purposes. This has lowered the plant’s carbon footprint and increased process efficiency.

The system was a finalist in the EU’s “Sustainable Energy Europe Award” competition in 2014. World Pumps recently published a feature about the innovative system. Read the full Word Pumps article here.
